The American Board of Dental Examiners (ADEX) is founded with representation from multiple dental boards. ADEX was a test development organization with the goal of creating one examination to serve the needs of all boards. ADEX did not deliver examinations.

The first ADEX dental examinations were delivered in 2005, while Dental Hygiene examinations were first conducted in 2006. The NERB organization delivered the first examinations in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
